BREAKING NEWS: Sharks Lose Raffi Torres For 3-4 Months

San Jose, CA– Today, the Sharks organization made the announcement that forward Raffi Torres went thru successful surgery to repair his right ACL. Torres injured his right knee in a preseason game against the Anaheim Ducks last Friday on September 20th.

In the second period of that preseason game against the Ducks, Torres collided with Anaheim forward Emerson Etem. Etem tried to stay onside in the Sharks zone when he attempted to drag his foot along the blue line, however while he was doing that, he caught Torres by surprise and the two players made knee on knee contact. The on looking crowd at the SAP Center were left silent as if you can here a pin drop in the arena while Torres was down on the ice.

Torres did not get up for several minutes after the incidence occurred with Etem. After he came too, Torres finally got his bearings and skated under his own power slowly over to the Sharks bench and the San Jose crowd gave him a standing ovation. Torres logged a total TOI (Time On Ice) of 5:29 against Anaheim.

With the outcome of Torres’s situation made official by General Manager Doug Wilson, this now leaves a hole San Jose needs to fill in their lineup. As of now, the likely candidates will probably be a collective effort in the likes of prospects Matt Nieto and Freddie Hamilton who are still impressing the coaching staff in their bids to make the opening night roster.

The most logical and realistic recovery scenario for Raffi Torres in going forward is, to allow him to fully heal all the way up to while the NHLer’s are participating in the 2014 Winter Games in Russia.  This will give Torres the opportunity to contribute in last five weeks of the 2013-2014 NHL season for San Jose.

Raffi Torres enters into his first full season with the Sharks as he signed a $6 million dollar contract during the offseason with San Jose. His contract has a modified NTC (No Trade Clause) thru the 2015-2016 NHL Season.
