Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green: No Pain, No Gain

Golden State Warrior Draymond Green is now heading into the upcoming (2013-2014) season with a laundry list of new responsibilities. Considering the fact that he lost about 15-20 pounds in the offseason, his new body frame of 231 pounds will now allow him to move extra efficiently around the key. Green’s proper dieting and rigorous gym workouts are proving to be “beneficial” in regards to his individual stamina and offensive production on the court. In the past, Green was struggling to get up and down the court, especially against the fast-break points. Last year, the second round pick was at a hefty 248 pounds, giving his knees a difficult time to keep up with all the weight. Eventually, Green’s right knee tendinitis got the best of him in the last couple of games of the regular season. His knees were the reason why his shooting percentages were lower than average (0.252).

On the court, Green’s defensive tenacity and presence energizes the Warriors to a whole new level. The rebounding and blocking rate for the “Dubs” also increased when Green was on the court. Offensively, his forte is “cleaning up” around the rim, making the necessary lay-ups, dunks, and tip-ins. This upcoming season, Green would also like to ameliorate his leadership qualities on the court, both physically and verbally.

Green stated, “It’s time to use my voice and use my leadership (skills) a little bit more.”

Green had a memorable Game 6 performance against the Denver Nuggets in the 2012-2013 playoffs, eliminating the explosive (No.3 seed) in the Western Conference. He racked up 16 points, 10 rebounds, and an instrumental blocking foul that helped decelerate the Nuggets offensive rhythm. However, his shooting inconsistencies continued throughout the series against the (No.2 seed) San Antonio Spurs and company.

Knowing that Green has a stout complimentary defense, improving his jump-shot will greatly exceed his versatility around the court. Unfortunately, the addition of Andre Igoudala will keep Green on the shelves as a defensive-depth insurance. However, this is basketball and anything can happen on the court injury-wise. If Igoudala is unable to play due to a severe injury or is need of a quick breather, without a doubt Green will be ready to raise havoc on both sides of the court.
