The Annual September Run Begins A Little Early for Oakland Athletics

balfour-rage

Put your xanax away Oakland A’s fans, the A’s are finally looking like the dominant team that we have grown accustom to over the last year. After having an uncharacteristically bad August in which they went 9-12, the A’s have won three in a row against the first place Detroit Tigers. It’s not just that the A’s have won the first three games of the series against the Tigers, it is how they have been winning against great pitchers. The A’s bats have awoken from their deep slumber as they have bombed Anibal Sanchez, Justin Verlander and Doug Fister for 28 runs over the last 24 innings.

The recent run of success has come on the heels of the return of Coco Crisp, Kurt Suzuki and Daric Barton (Can’t believe I am writing Barton in a positive light). With the A’s about to get some home cooking during a 10 game home stretch and a soft schedule awaiting them in September, this hot streak couldn’t have come at a better time. If the A’s batters can keep raking the ball in September, they will be rewarded with two top of the line pitchers coming back into the fray, Brett Anderson and Bartolo Colon.

Hopefully, the A’s can it up over the next few weeks as they play the hated Texas Rangers 6 more times. If they can keep within a couple of games of the Rangers by early September, they will get a chance to play seven straight games against the Astros and Twins which would put the A’s in position to take first place in the AL West.
