Breaking News: The San Francisco 49ers have traded Outside Linebacker Parys Haralson to The New Orleans Saints. We do not know what the return on Haralson is just yet, but we will keep you posted. Hopefully a backup quarterback.
Haralson, most famous for the Dr. Scott Hyver commercial where he was quoted as his eyes being “itchier than two goats in a pepper patch” would not have made an impact with the Niners defense this year, as Ahmad Brooks and Aldon Smith are the starters at outside linebacker. The improvement of Cam Johnson, and the impressive preseason of rookie 3rd Round Pick out of Auburn, Cory Lemonier, made Haralson expendable for the 49ers.
Haralson goes to the Saints having recorded 21.5 career sacks in 68 games, and 145 total tackles over his seven year career. Haralson missed all of last season with a torn tricep. The Saints are getting a nice player in Haralson, as he was a relatively productive player for the 49ers over his career, and provided nice depth off the bench when Ahmad Brooks took over the starting job. He goes to the Saints as the replacement for veteran Outside Linebacker Will Smith, who unfortuanately will be out for the season with a torn ACL, an injury he sustained in yesterdays preseason game against Houston.
The 49ers have a need at backup Quarterback, Wide Receiver, backup Offensive Line, and Cornerback, and it is very well possible that the 49ers addressed one of these needs with this trade. Again, we will keep you posted when we hear about the compensation package for Haralson.
