As the transactions continue, the San Francisco 49ers have officially 74 players on the active roster. The large portion of today’s roster moves were the transfer of players to the reserve lists. With the recent trade of Parys Haralson to the New Orleans Saints, anticipate an acquisition by the Niners. While on the reserve lists; players are not allowed to participate in practice or play in games until the following Tuesday of Week 6.
Earlier today, the team waived defensive linemen Lawerence Okoye, the British Olympic discus thrower, and Lamar Divens due to injury. With Chris Culliver out for the season, the cornerback was transferred to the injuried reserve list. Wide receivers Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham were moved to the Physically Unable to Perform list. Cornerback Eric Wright, defensive tackles Tank Carradine and Quinton Dial, offensive tackle Luke Marquardt, and running back Marcus Lattimore were added to the Non-Football Injury list.
Luckily for the San Francisco 49ers, they were able to maneuver their roster and retain all healthy players. Also, another good thing for the Red & Gold is that Okoye and Divens can resign with the 49ers’ practice squad, if they clear waivers. As the season approaches, more decisions impacting the starting roster will be revealed, like the announce of Eric Reed as the starting safety. Expect the roster chatter to continue with the season kicking off in about three weeks.
