Think about the best birthday present you’ve ever gotten. I don’t know what you came up with but I’ve got a feeling that Seth Curry has got us all beat. Today is August 23rd and Seth Curry, younger brother of Warriors guard Stephen Curry will be turning 23. Seth has also found a new job today. The Golden State Warriors have offered him a non-guaranteed contract and he will be in training camp with the squad come October.[youtube id=”8qZsSSznfQ8″ width=”600″ height=”350″]
Truly an NBA family, Seth will be the third Curry to play in the NBA, after Steph and their father Dell Curry, who also played in the league from 1986-2002, with multiple teams. Leading the league in three-point shooting in the 1998-1999 season, Dell was no slouch from beyond the arc and it looks like he’s passed those skills down to both of his sons.[youtube id=”zWJJG8x0NUA” width=”600″ height=”350″]
Seth started his college career at little known Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia where he led the nation in scoring among freshmen at 20.2 ppg. Seth could have taken the small school route that his older brother Steph took with Davidson but he had an offer he couldn’t refuse. Legendary Duke and Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski or “Coach K” , wanted Seth to be a Blue Devil,so after his freshmen year, Seth abided by the transfer rules and sat out his true sophomore season to join the team in 2010-2011.
Seth got better with each season and showed that the sweet stroke ran in the family, as he averaged 17.5 ppg and shot 43% from distance as a senior. Despite his impressive senior campaign and being named to the All ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) First Team he went undrafted last June. In a case of horrible timing, Seth sustained a stress fracture in his right shin in which he need surgery to repair. His 10-12 week rehab time-frame went right through the period where NBA teams were working out their possible draftees.
Seth will be deep in the rotation and may find himself spending some time in Santa Cruz with the Warriors D-League affiliate, but it’s the start of his NBA journey with his big brother and number one fan by his side to help him out.
Two Stephen Curry tweets ran through my mind as I learned about the signing. First, Steph’s post-draft tweet:
Major congrats to all the Draftees. Enjoy the moment! Sidebar: sleeping on @sdotcurry again…that man WILL be in the league this year.
— Stephen Curry (@StephenCurry30) June 28, 2013
Secondly Steph’s tweet when Seth’s career at Duke came to an end:
Well that’s all folks. Proud of my bro for all he did in his career. We’ll save a spot for you on the next level my man. #blessed

It’s almost like he knew all along. It’s funny how things work out sometimes.
I fully expect Seth to be hazed relentlessly by his older brother (out of love of course) and a memorable year with another solid piece added to the Warriors’ puzzle. Seth’s token hashtag on Twitter is #godsworknotmine and he likely feels as blessed as ever today. So let the real splash brother jokes begin. It’s going to be a fun season.
