7th Round Pick David Bass Looking Like A Steal for Oakland Raiders

Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie turned some heads during the NFL draft by not selecting a defensive lineman early in the draft. With the loss of Richard Seymour, Matt Shaugnessy, Tommy Kelly, and Desmond Bryant, the Raiders are in dire need of some pass rushers. McKenzie looks like he could have proven his critics wrong, as his 7th round selection David Bass has looked good in training camp so far.

Rookie defensive end Bass looks like he could have been a steal for the Raiders. Bass was a huge surprise in mini-camps by not only showing the ability to get to the quarterback as a defensive end but he also lined up as a 3-4 outside linebacker. The 7th round pick from Missouri Western State Bass showed that he could be an elite pass rusher in college by breaking the school record with 39.5 sacks.

The Raiders already came to training camp with an unproven defensive line and now not one of them can stay healthy, which makes the rise of Bass even more important for the beleaguered defensive line. Bass has taken advantage of his time on the field during training camp and already looks like one of the Raiders best pass rushers. The upcoming pre-season game against the Dallas Cowboys will be a big opportunity for Bass to show what he can do. Head coach Dennis Allen has become a big fan of Bass so far in training camp, so it would not surprise me if the 233rd draft pick makes a big impact this year.

  1. NFL in for a big surprise with Bass….clearly talented..will learn from Houston who is in his prime, Carter the Vet who is another natural pass rusher and Sio, who will push each others as peers to out produce other. BTW keep an eye on McGee as the season goes on. In Reggie we trust!!!

  2. We need a guy like him to be a player. One who does not let a QB rest back there and that hits them hard. Every one of our picks need to step up big time and play in the big time and be noticed. Stick’em hard and rap them hard to the ground.
